The "Greater Vancouver Vivaldi Chamber Choir Society" is delighted to be presenting their 31st Season of concerts in the Greater Vancouver region and the fourth season under Artistic Director Edette Gagné . We launch the 2018-19 season of concerts on the second Saturday in December at our Vancouver "home base" of St. Helen's Anglican Church followed by a Sunday visit to Highlands United in North Vancouver. We are proud to welcome our guests "A Touch of Brass" who will do the lion's share of accompanying a program of Carols, Cantatas and Choruses - all in a Christmas vein. March sees us offer a program of music about the sea, the sky, rivers and lakes of our Province, "Watecolours" at both St. Andrew's in Langley and St. Helen's. We wrap the season at the beginning of June by presenting two contemporary arrangements of the Mass accompanied by a small Jazz Combo. These two arrangements of the Mass will stand either side of a look back at a traditional a capella setting. This performance will be offered in Vancouver and on the North Shore.

Baroque, Brass and Beyond

An evening of chorales, choruses and cantatas for the Season. Johann Ruhnau was Bach's predecessor in Leipzig - Dietrich Buxtehude had the greatest influence on Bach's organ performance and composition - Heinrich Schütz and Michael Praetorius were two of the most influential composers before Bach. The inclusion of settings by Schütz and Bach of virtually the same text in the second half provides a meaningful connection and demonstration of the evolution of the music. This program celebrates the diversity and connections within Baroque choral composition, and will make the most of our collaboration with "A Touch of Brass." More ...

Our audience & friends are invited to join us for hot cider and cookies after the concert - stay for treats and conversation!

Watercolours

In 2016 we celebrated Canada's 150th Anniversary of Confederation by spreading a wide net to capture songs from coast to coast including a number by composers who call our Province home. However, with only a couple of exceptions, none referred in spirit to British Columbia. In this program we intend to make amends and concentrate on music inspired by, or directly descriptive of our seas, our rivers and lakes and the sky above it all. We see the whole Province but, along the way we narrow our focus to the Salish Sea and those creatures that dwell on its margins.

Mass with a Twist

Join us for two 21st century settings of the Mass which will be accompanied by a small combo. Will Todd's "Mass in Blue"' was commissioned in 2003 by Hertfordshire Chorus and is an upbeat jazz setting of the Latin Mass. Bob Chilcott took the text of the Missa Brevis and created a highly original and effective concert setting in which the various movements embrace a variety of jazz styles. These two intriguing pieces will bracket a more traditional approach to the Mass that will be presented a capella
