Noel: blanc et noir

Noël: blanc et noir

So much gorgeous music has been composed in celebration of Christmas, especially settings of familiar sacred texts. For instance, the number of composers throughout time who have set the text “Christus natus est” to music is easily in the hundreds.

This Christmas, Vivaldi Chamber Choir is amplifying the voices of black, living and female composers with our program, “Noël: blanc et noir”. The program features incredible works by Zanaida Robles, B.E. Boykin, Nathaniel Dett, Mark Miller, Christopher Ducasse, Adolphus Hailstork and Rosephanye Powell – all works that were new to our choir.

Balancing the program are some iconic choral treasures from John Rutter, Zoltán Kodály, Morten Lauridsen and others – creating a moving choral tribute to the hopes and dreams of the Christmas season.

One show only – in the beauty of Pacific Spirit United Church.

Come be inspired.

Artistic Director: Edette Gagné

Collaborative Pianist: Barry Yamanouchi

Vivaldi Chamber Choir believes in the power of music to affect positive change in our world. We recognize that we rehearse, perform and record on the traditional, ancestral lands of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleiwatuth people. We acknowledge that the land’s historical relationships with these peoples has existed since time immemorial. We express our gratitude to these peoples and value the opportunity to create music on this land.
